Breaking News

Stop the press!

My nephew, Jack Lynch, was just drafted by the St. Louis Cardinals!

A few hours ago, I called home to check up on Johnny and let my folks get some video time with Becky. My mom told me that there was some news. Dad hopped on the phone to share the good tidings.

Apparently, Jack heads to Jupiter, Florida, next week. The big leagues are calling and Jack, with that powerful left arm, eternal optimism, and dogged work ethic, will answer. It couldn’t have happened to a better kid. Or a better family.

I’m filled with joy. Because it’s cause to celebrate when something good happens to the good people in the world. Tonight, I plan to watch the All-Star game and might even throw in Field of Dreams.

Because I’ve walked in that cornfield on several occasions and made my kids do the same.

There’s something truly magical about our national pastime.

And now, Jack is a part of it.

I don’t have many more details to spin into a story. My brother Dennis texted that he will call to fill me in tomorrow. He’s rather preoccupied at the moment.

And tonight’s going to be rather busy at their house.

  1. Congratulations to your nephew and family! Very exciting times! I did not know you have been to Field of Dreams! I grew up a mile from there, Jamie and I went to high school there and were married in the Basilica!

  7. […] I am tired. I am overwhelmed. I am typing this wearing my Christmas pajamas, my fourth cup of coffee brewing in the kitchen. Emergency sirens are going off and the kids’ school just emailed that tornado protocols are being followed. And then the most exciting text hit my phone. A reminder that the sun rises as spring training begins in Jupiter, Florida. […]
